. How to ready your system in 10 minutes (with all installed software) by restoring disk/partition image.

Some times we have to Re-install Windows and other applications. This requires your 3 to 4 hrs. Since this task is a part of the Lab Maintenance, we can’t ignore it.

Solution:

We may save our valuable time by restoring Disk/ Partition image by Norton Ghost or any other Disk Mirroring Application. In our lab, we are having most of system having same Brand and Hardware components. We can Install Windows and other Software in just 10 minutes…. Any time …. Strange!!! .

Before starting the process you should have the following-

1. Bootable CD with Norton Ghost Software.
2. Windows OS CD and all the required Software CDs like MS Office, VB, NetBeans/ MySQL/ TC++ etc.  ( One time required.)

The following steps may be followed to create and restore the partition Image.

1. Install Windows and other Application Software on a fresh machine after making at least two or three partition. This PC should be complete in all respect.     
2. Insert Ghost Bootable CD and boot the PC. When System booted, run Ghost application on DOS prompt.
3. Choose Create Image -> Partition option. This will ask the source Partition name (you mat c:\) , Compression ratio, image file name (choose any name) and location (you may choose D:\) where it to be saved.  This will create an Image file of the selected partition.
4. You may write/ copy this Image file on DVD/ Pen drive ( the size of this file may depends on the size of the partition (Generally 1.5-2 GB).
5. Copy this image file on D:\ of all the PCs having same type (Same hardware configuration).
6. To restore the partition image (When Windows fails or any causality), Boot the PC by Ghost CD and Select Restore Image option and locate the Image file stored on D:\ of the PC.
7. This will restore the image of the partition and your System may get ready in 10 minutes as it was earlier.

Note:

Any application/ data will be lost which are installed or created after making Image file. You may take backup of user files before restoring image.
